Today there are a new option for people who wish to decorate their homes with ceramic floor tiles. And that is to have paint ceramic floor tiles that are painted to their liking. This is really a nice option for creative individuals, who can express them self this way, and paint their rooms this way. Also, it can allow you to break the monotony of the usual dark tones that most ceramic tiles are produced with, and paint ceramic floor tiles to vivid colors, which will enhance your enjoyment in the space where you place them.

These paint ceramic floor tiles are produced by painting them manually, by hand, to your liking. This can be done for you by people who specialized in that. You can try and look up for some of those tiles in stores that are specialized for ceramic tiles in general. Or you can try and get in touch with people who are making them through the Internet.

These paint ceramic floor tiles, that are painted by hand, often follow certain motives, like a field of flowers, or some other nature theme, or they can portray something totally different. The only thing that links all of these tiles is that they are original. Perhaps, you can even say they are a work of art. Of course, they are more expensive than usual tiles. Manual work necessary for creating them always come at a cost.

These paint ceramic floor tiles can take various positions on the floor where they are placed. They can just take the border tiles, but sometimes they can be placed in the middle of the floor, and form some sort of a mosaic there.

These paint ceramic floor tiles are usually created by coloring white glazed tiles with various paint.

To paint ceramic floor tiles one should probably have artistic talents, for as we mentioned, most people who are looking for these tiles are regarding them as certain works of art. Also, they really want to decorate their rooms with them, not just merely place tiles in them. These paint ceramic floor tiles can be used for decorating various rooms in ones home. They are, however, most often used in living rooms, children bedrooms, and recreational areas. And if you are a person looking to buy some of these tiles you too should have in mind that they are a work of art, and unique. Therefore you should not expect to get them whenever you want, as it is unlikely that the artist who created them will create a similar work.

Apart from the aesthetic reasons, these tiles should be considered for their other benefits like the fact that they are easy to maintain, simply due to the fact that they are ceramic tiles. Also, they are highly resistant to moist, and and various stains.

To conclude, if you want a functional, yet artistic addition to your home had painted ceramic tiles could just the thing for you.

Ceramic tiles are made from clay dust pressed into moulds and baked at high temperatures. If you choose the option of laying ceramic floor tile, you will be using a tile that has been used for hundreds of years, since they are so durable and are capable of withstanding heavy use, they are waterproof and will not be affected by most household spillages. Many Victorian houses that have ceramic tiling look as good today as they did when they were laid. The main areas for laying ceramic floor tile are the hall, kitchen and bathroom.

Ceramic floor tiles are slightly thicker than wall tiles, they come in a variety of designs, shapes, colours and patterns, and are available either glazed or unglazed. As with any job preparation is key to getting it right, this is no different with laying ceramic floor tile. If you are laying ceramic floor tile over a concrete floor surface, you need to first repair and fill in any holes, clean any grease off the surface and sweep leaving the floor free of dust before applying a sealant.

When laying ceramic floor tiles you will need to use an adhesive recommended by the manufacturer of the tile, this will usually be a bituminous cement based or solvent based adhesive. A trowel or spreader to apply the adhesive, spacers and a tile cutter or saw. If tiling over floorboards screw loose floorboards to the joists and then cover with 12mm exterior grade plywood, make sure the screws are countersunk and then seal the plywood surface.

How many tiles will I need? you can work this out by using the tile size to find out how many tiles there are in a row, then add up the number of rows, count the tiles you will have to cut as a whole one and then allow another row for any broken tiles you might have.

The final part of your preparation when laying ceramic floor tiles is deciding which grout to use. Waterproof grout is available in many colours, and white is always a popular choice but bear in mind this tends to show up dirty marks easily. Now we are ready to start. The first thing I recommend before you start laying ceramic floor tile is that you plan your tile layout on paper, in an awkward shaped room your tiles should follow a main feature such as a run of kitchen units.

Ok now we can get down to the real business of laying ceramic floor tiles. Firstly we need to find a starting point, this can be done by snapping chalk lines from the centre of each wall across to the opposite wall, where these two lines cross will be the position of your key starting tile. Dry-lay the key tile and tiles to two walls, reposition these tiles along the chalk line to prevent the cut tiles at both ends being less than a third of the full size. Remove the tiles and fix guide battens along the chalk lines, then spread the adhesive within the area using a notched trowel.

Start laying ceramic floor tiles onto the adhesive using a twisting motion, then place spacers between tiles to keep gaps even, at this point only lay whole tiles. Remove any excess adhesive. Now we can move onto the other sections of the floor and repeat the process. When this has been completed it is usually best to leave it overnight to dry. Next using a heavy duty tile cutter, cut and lay the edge tiles. Finally we can now grout the floor using a rubber bladed spreader, pressing the grout into the gaps with a grouting tool, and then wiping off the excess with a wet cloth before it sets.

Clean ceramic tile has a longer life expectancy and retains its glossy image until the end. Ceramic tile is used to decorate walls and floors, fireplaces and showers. It is manufactured with naturally-available products including clay and quartz sand. Clay has the property of restricting water flow and is used in the construction of dams, bridges and canals. Ceramic is also used in the preparation of engineering materials such as transistors in electronic devices. There are many varieties of ceramic tiles, and they differ in size, shape, design, pattern and make, and some are even produced specifically for certain rooms, including the bathroom, the kitchen and the living room. However, no matter the type of tile or the use of the tile, it should be taken care of, because clean ceramic tile is a key component in both the beauty of a house and the health of a family.

Decorative ceramic tile is used to decorate walls and floors. Walls can be decorated with these tiles in the place of wallpaper. Fireplaces and showers can be decorated with decorated tiles which increase the value of the house. Interior designers are using decorative tiles in their designs, and homeowners are learning to express their beliefs and personalities through the tiles they choose. Most tiles are exposed to dust, and they will fade over time if they are not cleaned regularly, especially those with painted images or designs. It is important to have clean ceramic tile because it keeps the family healthy and happy. In the end, it also saves on money and time, since well-groomed tiles will last longer and will need to be replaced less frequently, saving on cost, labor and annoyance.

A ceramic tile can be cleaned with a sponge and detergent. Ceramic tiles have a smooth surface which makes them easy to clean. Day-to-day cleaning can involve a vacuum, since light upkeep throughout the week will result in consistently clean ceramic tile. During installation, tiles should be placed so that there are no gaps left between the individual tiles. Otherwise, the tile can leak, and seepage will occur in the spaces left behind. Seepage is a common problem in many households, and the tiles are also harder to clean, as dirt and dust will build up in the cracks and cannot be reached with a vacuum or sponge. Quickly, clean ceramic tile will become a hopeless dream.

Clean ceramic tile is also safer tile. Not only does cleaning help to extend the life and quality of tiles, it can help to extend the life of the family. Dust and other chemicals can make families sick, and cleaning tile helps to remove at least some of the bacteria and disease from the home. If oil or any other petroleum product spills on the tile floor, it should be cleaned up right away, as the tiles can become very slippery and dangerous to walk on. Clean ceramic tile saves a family from accidents, as long as it is dried adequately after cleaning. You can read more free advice on ceramic tiles at http://www.CeramicTilesGuide.com

Ceramic tile cleaners are designed specifically to clean ceramic tile, especially the surface, and are available in liquid form. Cleaner is also available as a disinfectants Care should be taken while cleaning tiles, as chemicals, no matter how harmless, can be dangerous if used improperly. Tiles form an integral part of the home, and for the family, clean ceramic tile is only in its best interest.

Installing ceramic tile floors is not as hard as it looks. With a little knowledge and an easy step-by-step guide on how to do it, you can already be tiling your way to your dream floor. Here are some basic ceramic tiling tips you can chew on when you plan on installing ceramic tile floors at your home.

Knowing the kind of subfloor you’ll be installing ceramic tile flooring over is important. There are three main types of subfloors you might encounter: Vinyl, plywood, and concrete floors. Installing ceramic tile flooring directly to your vinyl or linoleum subfloor surfaces is greatly discouraged. One, it may contain asbestos fibers; and two, vinyl flooring is not a solid as good ol’ concrete flooring. When installing ceramic tile on vinyl, experts would recommend rough-sanding, or scarifying, the vinyl floor surface first so your tiling mortar has good grip to set on.

For plywood subfloors, be sure that the wood is at least 1 and 1/8 inches thick and is supported by an equally strong underlayment. Otherwise, your ceramic tiles will dislodge easily, or worse, break and need replacing. Concrete floors are the most ideal subfloor surface to work with. But before you can start installing ceramic tile flooring over it, it must be cleaned thoroughly. For dust and other debris, sweep and then mop your concrete subfloor surface, and allow it to dry completely. Smooth concrete surfaces must be rough sanded just like vinyl floors to allow the tiling mortar some grip.

You can begin window-shopping and canvassing for ceramic tiles once you have the space or area estimated. Ceramic floor tiles come in a variety of prices, shapes, textures and styles. Pick a tile type that’s within your price range and ask to see it in what a palette of colors. The most common ceramic tile size is one square foot. But ceramic tiles may come in a wide array of sizes; from one inch, to two feet.

Prices can vary according to tile type. Natural stone tiles made from granite or slate may sell for two dollars per square foot. Glazed ceramic tiles run from a dollar to twenty dollars per square foot, while unglazed quarry tiles may average around $2 per square foot.

An important thing to remember is to use ceramic tiles with a slightly rough textured surface when tiling the bathroom. This is so you won’t encounter accidents on a floor that’s always wet. Smooth glazed ceramic tiles, especially, are ideal for kitchen or back porch flooring. But you shouldn’t use them bathroom floors, as they can be treacherous when wet.

It’s also important to get the right equipment and tools for the project. You can buy most of the tools and materials you’ll need at you neighborhood hardware store, or home center. For equipment that might over your budget like tile cutters, try asking your local home center or tool rental yard if they have the tools you need for rental. Basic ceramic tiling tools include A pair of safety glasses, heavy leather gloves, tile spacers, notched trowel, a handheld tile cutter, and a pair of tile nippers. Have some sandpaper handy for smoothing out cut edges. Sponges and clean dry rags will come in handy for cleaning and wiping off excess mortar material and grout lining from your newly-finished ceramic tiling floor.

Of course, you can always consult a professional if you are hesitant over how to start installing ceramic tile on your floor. From choosing the right tiles and color, to tearing out existing ceramic tile floors without damaging the subfloor, to installing ceramic tile that will last you a lifetime, a home improvement professional will be able to help you with information, at the very least, or assist you when you start installing ceramic tile.

Raring to start working on your own ceramic floor tile project? Get ready to learn the basics of how to lay ceramic floor tile right here and make that beautiful ceramic tile floor that you and your family have always wanted! So, get your tiling tools ready, put on your safety goggles and let’s do some tiling!

Most tiling jobs start with a well-prepared subfloor. As you learn more about how to lay ceramic floor tile, you will find out about the three general types of floors that tile installers may often work with. Such information will help you alot along the way.

Generally, you will encounter three types of subfloors: Vinyl, plywood, and the concrete floors. Installing ceramic tile directly to vinyl or linoleum floors (or subfloor surfaces) should be avoided at all cost. Your vinyl or linoleum flooring may contain asbestos fibers and should be tested first before you try removing it. If your vinyl floor covering does not contain asbestos fibers, a general recommendation on how to lay ceramic floor tile is to rough-sand, or scarify, the vinyl floor surface to provide your tiling mortar a better grip. Use a latex modified thinset mortar to install your ceramic tiles over your vinyl subfloor.

Working over plywood subfloors can be very tricky, as well. Like vinyl floor surfaces, it is not advisable to install your ceramic tiles directly on to your plywood floor surface. Plywood flooring usually has a smooth surface, and easily warps when exposed to heat or moisture. Be sure that the wood is at least 1 and 1/8 inches thick and is reinforced and supported by an equally strong underlayment. Otherwise, your ceramic tiles will dislodge easily, or worse, break and need replacing. Plywood panel edges must be installed about one-fourth of an inch away from perimeter walls and door jambs, and fixtures and cabinetry. These are expansion gaps and should not be bridged with tiling mortar. To prevent moisture from damaging the plywood subfloor, use a waterproofing sealant or caulk over your plywood subsurface.

Concrete floors are the most ideal subfloor surface to work with. But before you start tiling over the subfloor surface, it must be cleaned thoroughly. Paint, adhesives, fillers or levelers, sealers, and chemically treated cement substrates are unsuitable surfaces fpr ceramic tile installations. Remove these by using non-chemical methods. For dust and other debris, sweep and then mop your concrete subfloor surface using only clean water. Allow the surface completely before you start working on it. Generally, smooth concrete surfaces are difficult to work with as the tiling mortar may not grip and hold. Consequently, your ceramic floor tiles may be in danger in dislodging. Smooth concrete surfaces must be rough sanded, scarified, or etched to allow the tiling mortar some grip.

Another important aspect about how to lay ceramic floor tile is to always check for cracks and debris. Repair as many of the cracks as you can. If you see cracks that are too large to repair, replace the floor section where they are found with new concrete. Concrete may need to set (or dry) for at least twenty-four hours before you can start tiling over it. Lastly, get out your carpenter’s level and check for any dips or humps on the concrete subfloor surface. If you find any, you may use a cement-based floor level to fill in the dips and smoothen over the humps. This will help to keep your finished ceramic tile floor level and minimize dislodging, or tile breakage.

Let it dry or set properly. This is the key step you need to keep in mind about how to lay ceramic floor tile flooring. There are three setting periods: The first is right after you have placed your ceramic tiles with thin set mortar and bonded them to your subfloor. The second is after after putting in your tiling grout (before putting on the sealant). These setting periods last overnight, at the very least, to twenty-four hours, at the most. Your sealant has dried, you are done!

So when you work on your own ceramic tile project, always remember how to lay ceramic floor tile properly by knowing how to work with your subfloor surfaces. Learning how to lay ceramic floor tile is also both a great way both to learn a new hobby, and a home improvement skill. Just remember to keep a safe working environment, not to rush things (especially during setting periods), and try to work with at buddy. Better yet, get your friends over and help.

So you’ve moved into your new apartment and you find that your floor is in bad shape. So, you decide to tear out the old floor tiles and put in new ones. But beware! Ceramic tile installation is not as easy as it looks. So before you begin tearing out anything from the floor, take a few and learn more about what you need to prepare for, when starting on installing your new ceramic tiles. Here are three great tips on what to prepare for when planning your ceramic tile installation:

1) Identify what kind of floor you have – or rather, your subfloor. Knowing the kind of subfloor you’ll be setting your ceramic tiles over is important. There are three main types of floors (or, subfloors), that you might encounter, when starting on your ceramic tile installation:

a. A concrete floor – Working ceramic tiles over a concrete subfloor is the most ideal, but you have to check and clean it of debris before you start. All the cracks and holes need to be repaired and filled in before your ceramic tile installation can start. Once your start working on your project, each of your ceramic individual tiles will be bonded directly to the concrete floor. If the cracks widen, this will affect your tiles, as well. Some cracks may even be that large that it would be best to replace the larger sections of your concrete floor rather than patching up all the cracks. If you have a lot of large cracks, especially ones that run up the wall, consult a specialist before your start working on your tiling project.

b. A plywood subfloor. If you’re moving into a second floor apartment, most likely you’re subfloor will be in plywood. Because you will be putting ceramic tiles over wood, your plywoord subfloor has to be structurally sound and capable of supporting your ceramic tile installation. Your plywood floor has to be at least 1 1/8 inch thick, and supported by an equally strong underlayment beneath it. Ceramic tiles are heavy and would need a subfloor that can support their combined weight. And they will become dislodged, or even break. Otherwise, it would be unwise to do a ceramic tile installation on wood.

c. An existing ceramic tile floor. Ceramic tile floors would more often than not, require the new room occupant to remodel. There are two options for remodeling an existing tile floor: One, leave the tile floor in place and work your ceramic tile installation directly over it; or two, remove the old tiles. If the current tile floor is set over a mortar bed, the easiest way to remove them would be to use a large flat-bladed chisel and just hammer away. Be sure to keep yourself protected.

2) Try to get an estimate of the project by taking down the length and width of the floor area that you will be tiling. When you go window-shopping, make sure to bring your measurements and discuss it with your hardware or home center specialists. Those measurements will help you a lot in estimating how much ceramic floor tiles you need to buy. It will also help you estimate how much cement and grout, and the tools you’ll need for your ceramic tile installation.

3) Identify the look you want to achieve with your floor. Choosing ceramic tiles can be made easy by considering these general factors: Desired look, tile size and durability.

a. Choose based on your desired look. Tile turn-on. What is the look you want to project with your ceramic tiles? Going for that rugged and rustic feel? Or are you more at home with that natural earthy adobe color? Choose a ceramic tile that fits the room’s total appearance. It would not work, if you have got a shiny orange tile floor to go with your French windows.

b. Look around and compare tiles before buying. After you’ve made the estimates for the floor space that needs to be tiled, window-shop for your ceramic tiles. Ceramic floor tiles come in a variety of prices, shapes, textures and styles. Pick a tile that’s within your price range. Then, ask to see in what a palette of colors that tile comes in, so you can select one that fits the look you want to make. The most common ceramic tile size is one square foot. But ceramic tiles may come in a wide array of sizes; from one inch, to two feet.

c. Whatever look you want to achieve, it is a given that your tiles should be durable. The kind of ceramic floor tiles you are looking for should have three main qualities: The ability to withstand water absorption, impressive resistance to abrasion and constant use, as well as high aesthetic qualities. Most hardware stores are open to requests for information like details tile strength and ability to withstand regular use and scratching, and resistance to physical stress and liquids. Gaining information will help you a lot in your ceramic tile installation, and maintenance.

When hesitating between two options, it never hurts to seek assistance from your tile dealer or someone who knows tiles better than you. From choosing the right tiles and color, to tearing out existing ceramic tile floors without damaging the subfloor, a building professional can help you with information, at the very least, or assist with your ceramic tile installation. These professionals are always open about sharing what they know about home improvement and making beautiful tile floors. You can get referrals for tiling specialists from your hardware store, home center, or equipment tool rental yard.

Ceramic tiles, kiln-fired clay items, have now become a popular flooring option, due to its features such as durability and ability to resist fading, staining, scratches, and other chemical and thermal reactions. Installing ceramic tile is a skilled combination of art and science. It can be easily installed by anyone with the help of appropriate tools and installation brochures provided by manufacturers. Among the basic tools required for installing ceramic tiles are tape measure, hammer, chalk line, fiber glass tape, rubber gloves, tile nippers, dust mask, safety glasses, tile cutter, and marking pencil.

Though installation of ceramic tile is not a complicated task, it does involve some detailed steps such as preparing tile surface, laying out the wall, applying adhesive or mortar, setting tile, and caulking. Ceramic tile can be installed on any surface such as drywall, plaster, cement block, and even in existing ceramic tile. The surface for the tiles should be flat, smooth, and free of dust and debris. Additionally, if there is any loose paint or crack on the surface, it should be scraped off and patched with some water-proof substance.

Laying out the wall is perhaps the most important step in the installation process. It includes determining the level line, planning starting point, and checking whether any irregularity has been caused by fixtures like kitchen cabinets and tubs. The next step is to evenly apply ceramic wall adhesive on the surface using a notch trowel. Pro-mastic and pro-flex platinum are the most commonly used adhesives for ceramic tiles.

After having applied the adhesives, carefully place the tiles one by one on the surface. Equipments such as tile spacers can be used to give adequate space between the tiles. Sometimes, for fixing tiles on the edges cutting may be required. A masonry drill can be used for the cutting purposes. For making curved cuts, micro cutter or wet saw can be used.

Before allowing the tiles to settle, they should be leveled using a hammer. When tiles are settled, fill in the gap between the tiles with grout. Seal all grout joint to avoid grout porosity. The final step in ceramic tile installation process is caulking. This is primarily done to prevent water from seeping into bathtub edges or corners of the wall.

The ceramic tile floor is the choice of most home owners these days. Once a ceramic tile is installed, it will stay beautiful as ever for generations to come. This is because ceramic tiles are durable and can withstand the wear and tear brought about by heavy foot traffic. It is moisture and stain resistant too.

A few swipes of a damp mop are all it takes to rid the floor surface of dirt and stains. Ceramic floor tiles come in varied shapes, sizes, textures and designs. You will be given unlimited options to create a floor that will blend in with the decoration scheme of the house.

Ceramic tile is so versatile that it can be installed over any kind of base be it concrete, old tiles, and vinyl floors. Wood floors though are not a suitable base for ceramic tiles because water seepage would destroy the wood. Apart from that, wood is not very stable and any movement could crack the tile joints. Here are the steps that you need to do:

* Lay Out-this is the first step in installing ceramic tile floor. Find the center by measuring the length and the width of the room. Using a chalk, strike lines that will serve as your guide for symmetrical tile installation. Lay tiles on the floor without the adhesive. This is called dry setting. This will enable you to see the appearance of the finished project. This will also give you the chance to experiment on different floor designs if you are going to use patterned ceramic tiles.
* ThinSet-this is the adhesive that you will use to make the ceramic tile stick to the floor base. You can use a ready mix thinset or you can mix one like the pros do. Thoroughly mix the adhesive powder with water by using a stirrer attached to an electric drill.
* Installing the ceramic tile- Spread the adhesive or the thinset using a double edged trowel. Use the flat edge to spread thinset to the floor base and the notched edge to spread thinset to the tile. The notched edge will ensure that the right amount of thin set is used. Excess thin set will ooze out of the tile joints. The pros would start installing at the center of the floor but you can start at the less visible parts to hide installation flaws. Let the tiles set for about 48 hours.
* Grouting-This is the last step in installing ceramic tile floor. Apply the grout using a rubber trowel. Make sure that the joints are filled with the grout. Grouts are available in different colors. It is advisable to use a dark colored grout for floor areas with heavy foot traffic as dirt would be less noticeable. Clean the excess grout from the surface of the floor. Use water and a sponge to clean glazing grout. Frequently rinse the sponge until the tile surface is completely cleaned of grout.

You have finished installing ceramic tile floor. A fulfilling job, isn’t it?Even if you haven’t done any tiling before, you can easily follow the step by step procedure. Like many other DIY projects, installing ceramic tile floor can be learned with pleasure if you are really interested.

Plain, shiny, and white glazed ceramic tiles and thin tiles are most suitable for hand painting. The media used for hand painting ceramic tiles generally depend on the plans and techniques employed. Some of the most commonly used materials and tools for hand painting ceramic tiles are China paints (overglaze colors) made from oxides of several metals, lavender oil, brushes, palette knife, fine calligraphy pen, soft pencil for glass, and turpentine.

The first step in the process of hand painting is to decide the theme of the painting. Then, make rough sketches on a graph paper of the exact size. Before hand painting tiles, clean them thoroughly with soapy water and allow them to dry. Next, mix the paint with oil and turpentine. Brush and palette knife can be used to smear and blend colors. When the hand painting process is complete, it is necessary to heat the glazes between 1350 degrees and 1500 degrees Fahrenheit, inside a kiln.
